🟠 DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT RULES
Hosted by Dodgeball South Africa
🎯 Age Divisions
Junior Division: Ages 8–13
👥 Team Composition
6 players on court
Max 8 players per team (2 subs allowed)
Teams must be mixed gender: At least 2 players of the opposite gender must be on the court at all times
⚖️ Game Rules (Simplified)
Court Setup (This will be modified based on the venue)
- 2 teams per court; a center line divides the court
- 5 balls placed along the center line — 2 balls per team, 1 ball contestable in the center
Starting Play
- All players begin at the back of the court
- On the referee’s signal, teams rush to retrieve their 2 balls and may only use them after stepping back behind the activation line
Getting Out
You’re out if:
- Hit by a live ball
- A thrown ball you attempt to block hits you after the block
- You drop your blocking ball during a block
- You step over the center line into the opponent’s side
- If you catch a ball:
- The thrower is out
- The first teammate out can return to play
- Returning players get 5 seconds of immunity, unless they actively engage in play
Dead Balls
- Balls that bounce off the ground, wall, or net are dead
- You cannot be out or catch a dead ball
Live Balls
- A ball remains live after deflecting off another player or ball and can cause outs or be caught
Blocking
- You may use a ball to block
- If the ball you’re blocking with is dropped or if the deflected ball still hits you — you’re out
Headshots
- Count as an out
- Discouraged — repeat offenders may be warned or sent off
Play Ball Rule
- If one team has most or all balls, the ref may call “play ball”
- That team must throw within 10 seconds, or forfeit all balls to the other team
